A Jam-Packed Week!
Week 3 of Connect: Sensory Science
This week of sensory science was jam packed with not one, not two, but THREE experiments to send the kids onto their holiday break!
First we started off with a dancing raisins experiment, how fun! We first watched an introductory video to see how this experiment works, and then we jumped straight in! The kids were all given raisins, carbonated water, and a clear plastic cup. The kids filled their cups and then dropped the raisins in the cup. They watched as the carbonation made the raisins bounce up and down!
Without wasting any time, we headed into the next activity – the never melting snowman! This was the perfect festive activity to do for our last group before the holiday break! We first watched a video to get our measurements correct, then the group was given baking soda, salt, soap, and water. The ingredients formed a perfect snow-like mixture, that was easily formed into a snowman! The kids built their snowmen and painted them a face, then they were given vinegar to melt their snowmen at the end - which ended up being their favourite part, and the highlight of their night!
For our main and final activity, I wanted to make sure the kids had something they could use at home or at school, so we made DIY sensory bottles. The kids were given empty VOSS bottles, 2 types of glitter each, wooden shapes that represented them, marbles, and food colouring. We then filled the bottles with all of the supplies, water, baby oil, and some dish soap, which created a glittery snow-globe. We glued the tops closed, to avoid any unwanted glitter explosions at home or in the car. The kids loved personalizing it and played with the bottles for the remainder of the evening while enjoying a snack and watching one more science video clip to end the night. It was so cool to see how creative each kid got with their bottles, with so many unique colours, shapes, and more.
With the holidays approaching, this was our last group until the new year. This was such a fun way to send off the kids into their holidays with their families.
