Self-Compassion and Shaving Cream!

Week 7 of Connect: P.O.W.E.R

We are back with another Last Week at Connect blog post! Between doing activities related to self-compassion and a super cool art project with shaving cream and food colouring, we had a blast this week!

We first started off the group by talking about our weeks and the snow outside. Then we headed into our presentation for the topic this week, which was self-compassion. We mainly talked about how we can get very hard on ourselves when things do not work out as planned, and how we can reverse our thinking to be more compassionate towards ourselves, just as we would with friends. With this, the girls got to do a few activities in their journals, such as writing themselves self-compassion letters to look back on when they are being hard on themselves.

After we finished talking about self-compassion, we headed into our activity for the night - shaving cream art! For this activity, the girls were each given a glass tray, shaving cream, food colouring, card stock, and tools to swirl around their designs. They started off by filling their trays with shaving cream (which was very fun to watch), then putting a few drops of their desired food colouring colours on top. They then swirled these colours around to create a marble effect on the shaving cream. After this, they placed their card stock on top of the coloured shaving cream and then took a squeegee and scraped off the shaving cream. This left behind some breathtaking designs on the paper!

The girls had so much fun with this activity and seemed to be very impressed by the designs they were able to create. They also loved playing with the leftover shaving cream in the pan at the end! Throughout the night, we all enjoyed some hot chocolate, popcorn, and fresh fruit.

It was a wonderful week!
