MINDFULNESS JARS and Cookies
Week 3 of Connect: P.O.W.E.R.
On our second-to-last visit before winter break, we had lots of fun learning about mindfulness by making mindfulness jars, along with decorating Christmas cookies!
Before jumping into the mindfulness jars activity, we gave the girls some time to finish a vision board project they started a week prior. This gave them some time to settle into the evening and converse with each other about how their weeks were. During this, we also played some games of “Would you rather.”
When everyone was done with their vision boards, Melissa and I gave each girl a mason jar filled with baby oil and water. The girls were then instructed to add anything they wanted like glitter, charms, and food colouring. The end product was so cool and unique to each girl. We described how whenever the girls feel anxious, stressed, or just need some time to breathe, they could shake up their mindfulness jars and look at all the pretty sparkles and colours inside. With this, the intention is that looking at these jars would ground the girls and give them time to take some deep breaths. The girls seemed to really like this activity!
Following the mindfulness jars, we gave the girls a treat by decorating Christmas cookies! Each girl was given two cookies, and they were provided with an assortment of icing and sprinkles to choose from.
Overall, it was an extremely fun week!
