Cloudy Colours & Birdhouses!

Week 1 of Connect: Paint It!

It’s BigsNBC volunteers, Emily and Hannah, here giving you another LWAC blog post! We are so excited to be leading this group, especially because we both love to paint! For our very first activity, we did cloudy colours and birdhouse painting!

After we introduced everyone, we jumped right into our first activity! The kids got to paint their own birdhouses. They were given a choice of using acrylic paints, paint pens, and even glitter spray! Everyone was super creative with their style of painting. The kids even got to fill their birdhouses with seeds and take them home to use. 

After that was completed, the kids did a short colourful experiment with water, food coloring, and shaving cream. They filled a clear glass with water and sprayed shaving cream over the surface. They dropped some food colouring on top and watched the colour break through the shaving cream like rain through a cloud. Some kids called this activity "slurpee making" as the cups really resembled a slurpee with ice cream on top.
