Connecting through communication
Week 7 of Connect: Nukko Lake
This was our first week back from spring break, which means the kids had so much to share about the fun activities they did over the break! Some of the kids got to travel to places like Edmonton and Oliver, and all the kids said they had a fun spring break - and that they’re already tired from being back in school!
This week we focused on teaching the kids the importance of boundaries through a fun balloon pop game. The kids had previously played this game, but were very excited to play it again! After we played two rounds of this game, we then headed into an obstacle course! Amy and I went to the school the day prior to set up a fun obstacle course for the kids to race each other. The kids had a blast with this because they really enjoy activities that involve lots of movement. They even recommended that we incorporate floor hockey into it next time, which was a great idea!
After all the activities were done, we all sat down and talked about them while eating a snack. The kids said that the obstacle course would have been hard if no one was allowed to communicate with each other. We thought this was a great response because the kids took something fun and active like an obstacle course, and turned it into a lesson of communication. What a fantastic way to demonstrate their growth throughout the course of this group! The kids also said that they did not feel any pressure from their peers while doing the activity, which was so great to hear!
We’re so excited that this group is back up and running after the break. More importantly, we are so proud of the growth we have seen in the kids throughout the past several weeks.
Let’s see what next week brings!
