Become a BigsNBC Board Member

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC would like to welcome you to the first step of becoming a board member with our Agency. The Board plays a critical role in shaping the organization through policy, strategic planning and budgeting.

Our Board is a group of individuals who want to help give back and create change in our region. The Board meets ten times per year, and we work hard to keep each meeting to around 2 hours. In addition to board meetings, there are committee meetings, emails and the odd request to help out at agency events. For most directors, the time commitment is approx. 3-5 hours per month. There will be virtual options for all meetings to accommodate those directors not living in Prince George or who may not be able to attend in person.

Please read this page for more information about our Agency and the position of Director.
If you are interested in joining the Board, here is the process moving forward:

  • Complete the application form and return it to Amanda Holmes, Executive Director by email at amanda.holmes@bigbrothersbigsisters.ca.

  • You MUST be a standing member of Big Brothers Big Sisters to be a Board Member. You can complete your membership application online at www.bigsnbc.ca/membership. If you prefer not to process it online, don't hesitate to contact Amanda.

  • Online Criminal Record Check needs to be completed. The website and password are included within this package, and there is no cost.

  • The Nominations Committee will be in touch to complete an interview.

  • If there are no concerns with the application, interview or criminal record check, your name will appear on the ballot. All candidates must provide a photo and a 250-word bio to Amanda by Monday, May 1st, 2023.

  • Online ballots are distributed to members on Monday, May 8th, 2022, and voting remains open until 12pm Wednesday, May 10th. All candidates will be contacted by noon with the results of the election. Our active members elect board members, and you must secure a minimum of 50% + 1 of eligible votes cast to be elected. Director terms are two years.

  • Members will ratify election results at the Annual General Meeting at 6 pm on Wednesday, May 10th. There will be a brief meeting for the new Board following the AGM.

  • The first board meeting will occur following the adjournment of the Annual General Meeting.

  • Board Orientation will be determined at the first board meeting.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Amanda Holmes at 250-563-7410 or by email at amanda.holmes@bigbrothersbigsisters.ca. Once again, we would like to thank you for your interest in our Board, and we cannot wait to receive your application.
