Week 5 of the Connect: Engineering program

This week was very bitter sweet, as it was the last session of Connect: Engineering. We started this week by going around the room and discussing how we felt about our group coming to an end. Overall, we all agreed that we’ve had a great couple of weeks and are looking forward to other opportunities to learn and grow new friendships.

Before the main event, the kids were challenged to stack balloons. Whoever builds the tallest tower wins in 10 minutes, wins. With only balloons and masking tape, the group got to work. Before we knew it, there was a balloon tower reaching the ceiling! We were all very impressed.

Following this, we made we made popsicle stick catapults. The catapults required popsicle sticks, elastics, a small cup, and some glue. Although tricky at times, the group worked together to build. Armed with pom poms to act as their ammo for the catapults, the kids shot them off in every direction. We were all quite was surprised at the springy results!

To finish off the session, we enjoyed rice cakes and bear paws while discussing what everyone was dressing up for Halloween as, and which Prince George neighbourhoods are best for trick or treating. We once again moved to the balloons to see who could make the loudest balloon sound. After many squeaks and giggles, we all said “see you later”. This was such a fun group that I hope we do again in 2023.
