Tie-Dye and Good Vibes
Week 4 & 5 of Connect: Arts and Crafts
Our Connect: Arts and Crafts group has wrapped up, and we are so happy with how much the kids expressed their creative talents! For week 4, we did coaster painting and “Cat Scraping” and in week 5, we ended the group with tie-dyeing!
For the coaster painting, we gave all the kids a set of coasters to paint on their own. We found that something that was really cool about having an older age group was that they really enjoy doing free art and socializing with other members of the group, which makes it very fun and engaging! Then for a quick structured group activity, we tried "Cat scraping"! Every child was given a piece of card stock, bottles of paint, and a flat cardboard surface. They had to trace out the tops of the ears with paint, then use the cardboard to drag it down, creating the body! After the paint dried a bit, they could draw the cat's face.
We ended the final week off with a fun tie-dyeing session – which everyone loved! Each child got a t-shirt, elastics, and tie-dye colours to choose from. Their designs turned out so unique and beautiful! With the last little bit of time left, they also did some free art painting wooden gnomes.
This Arts and Crafts group was such a blast, and I am so happy to have been able to help coordinate it.
Until next time!
