A Little Bit of 3D and a Little Bit of Dancing

Week 5 of the Connect: Arts and Crafts program

I mean, it was definitely hard to top an awesome artist coming in to show us how it’s done with watercolour painting last week but of course Amy crafted up something super fun for the Littles to enjoy and (kind of) collaborate on.

This week we did 3D painted canvases featuring a ton of little 3D wooden pieces, there were: stars, hearts, butterflies, cars, birds, bikes, glasses, you name it! The Littles started with a blank canvas and a bunch of paint. As always, there was no limit to what they wanted to do! Some did nature settings with houses and trees and rainbows and others did a big cruise ship on the ocean with a 3D anchor. Amy and I hot glued the pieces on once the Littles had decided where they wanted to go. When I mentioned earlier that they kind of collaborated, I mean they discussed what they were doing with each other and bounced their ideas around. Rainbows seemed to be a big theme this whole program: we saw so many rainbow drawings and paintings – but who doesn’t love a good rainbow, am I right?!

The best part of this week was the end of the session. We decided to play a couple of songs while we painted and did our craft as a treat, and the Littles got to request songs and sing along to their favourites. BUT, when we played Crazy Frog, all bets were off. The group went into a full on dance party and a few of the Littles showed their best moves on the dance floor. Crazy Frog was requested a few more times but we definitely had to set a limit because the dance moves were getting out of this world (haha!). Here’s a sneak peak at our Connect: Arts and Crafts Playlist!

Pop piano covers playlist
Message in a Bottle – Taylor Swift
You’re Welcome – Moana
Never Gonna Let You Down – Colbie Caillat
Every song from Encanto
More Disney songs
Axel F – Crazy Frog

And more! It was so fun to have a moment to let loose and just have fun. That’s what these groups are all about – there’s no set structure that we HAVE to follow. It’s all about doing crafts, unlocking your imagination, making friends and having fun. And what better way to spend a Wednesday evening!
