THE SECOND WEEK WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Week 2 of the Connect: Arts and Crafts program

Week 2 was very exciting because we were doing a craft I’ve never even seen before, so this was new for most of us. A few kids had done a similar craft in the past so they led the way! We made GALAXY JARS, which is as cool as it sounds.

We used a bunch of different materials and supplies to make a cool rippling galaxy look inside of a mason jar. There were some cotton balls that we stuffed in and that made them look almost like a milky way. And of course, there’s never enough glitter so we loaded those things up with sparkles and they turned out awesome. The messiest crafts are always the most fun, especially when parents don’t have to deal with it! The kids were so excited again with the craft they whizzed through it and we had some extra time at the end to do another activity. Amy brought in some print out mazes, word searches and games which were definitely a hit. One of the kids was obsessed with Mario and Luigi and of course the Super Mario wordsearch was popular. What was also really fun was to see the kids starting to engage in conversation with each other without us Bigs prompting them. They started to get to know each other a bit more and wanted to show each other their crafts and share ideas. It was super fun to see them coming out of their shells a bit more and I knew that as the group went on it would only get better and they’d get even more comfortable.

It was so fun (and messy) that we didn’t get too many pictures but we did take a couple! Week 2 was out of this world – let’s see what week 3 has in store!!!
